Our Story

Funky Fresh Radio is the heartbeat of Boston’s Hip Hop community. For more than three decades, we’ve lived, built, and pushed the culture forward, making an undeniable impact on the New England music scene.

Founded and led by Rusti Pendleton, known to many as Rusty the Toe Jammer and now as Mr. Funky Fresh, our story began with Rustin himself behind the turntables. Starting as a DJ in the early days of Boston Hip Hop, he went on to create Funky Fresh Records, a hub for music and culture. His voice and vision carried onto the airwaves, first with shows on WRBB (Northeastern University) during the early years of hip hop, and later through Touch FM 106.1 and The Urban Heat 98.1 FM with “Music Industry Education 101.”

That legacy has grown into something bigger: New England’s own 24/7 radio station solely dedicated to Boston Hip Hop, Funky Fresh Radio

Our Mission

At Funky Fresh Radio, our mission is simple: keep the culture alive, elevate new talent, and connect the community through music.

We are the only station solely dedicated to New England and Boston Hip Hop, broadcasting 24/7 with a steady rotation of the freshest sounds. From the pioneers who laid the foundation to the rising stars pushing boundaries today, we make sure Boston’s voice is heard, respected, and celebrated.

Every day, we introduce new music, highlight incredible local artists, and stand as a platform that supports and protects the authentic spirit of Hip Hop. Our commitment is to ensure the culture not only thrives today but continues to inspire future generations.
